The Society recognizes outstanding contributions to connective tissue and extracellular matrix research through multiple awards presented annually at the JSMBM Scientific Meeting.

Otaka Prize

The Otaka Prize honors the late Yuichi Otaka, founder and first President of JSMBM, and is awarded for an excellent research paper that has contributed significantly to the advancement of connective tissue research and shows potential for future impact.

  • • Eligible candidates must be under 45 years of age as of April 1 of the award year.
  • • The prize includes a certificate and a monetary award.
  • • Selection is made by a committee appointed by the Society.

Distinguished Investigator Award

The Distinguished Investigator Award recognizes long-term scientific contributions by JSMBM members who have significantly advanced the field of connective tissue research.

  • • Candidates must have been Regular Members for at least 15 years.
  • • Recipients are selected by the Society’s Board and announced at the annual meeting.
  • • Awardees are listed in the Society’s abstract book.
 
 

Distinguished Support Award

The Distinguished Support Award honors corporate or institutional members that have made long-standing contributions to the development and activities of JSMBM.

  • • Eligible organizations are corporate members with more than 10 years of continuous membership.
  • • The award is presented at the annual meeting, and the organization’s name is included in the abstract book.
 
 

Young Investigator Award

The Young Investigator Award is presented to early-career researchers for outstanding scientific presentations given at the JSMBM Scientific Meeting.

  • • Candidates must be under 40 years of age as of April 1 of the meeting year.
  • • Up to five awards may be presented each year.
  • • Applicants must be the presenting (first) author of the abstract and have applied for consideration at the time of submission.
  • • Selection is made by the Conference Chair and awarded during the meeting.
 
 

JSMBM International Travel Award

The International Travel Award supports young researchers in presenting their work at overseas meetings and promotes international exchange.

  • • Applicants must be under 40 years old as of April 1 of the award year and have paid membership dues in full.
  • • The award supports travel to international conferences occurring between August 1 and July 31 of the following year.
  • • Applicants must also present at the JSMBM Scientific Meeting and deliver their JSMBM presentation in English.
  • • Selection is based on abstract quality and relevance to connective tissue or extracellular matrix research.
  • • Awardees report on their international experience in the Society’s newsletter.
